Master closet organization project

I’m a big organizer. There is nothing I love more than getting rid of stuff and reorganizing spaces. Before you continue reading about what I did to the closet in my master bedroom watch this really short video to see what I started with. Warning – it’s bad!

Closet before…

To start with I knew I had way too much stuff in way too small of a space. My closet is huge so being overstuffed meant that there was a lot in there.

I am a big proponent of getting rid of things you no longer use or wear. In my closet I always have a giveaway pile going. If I put something on and I don’t like the way it fits, into the pile it goes. If Zella puts on something and she has outgrown it, into the box it goes for her too. When I feel that I have collected enough to warrant actually removing it from my house I contact they are on my street twice a week so I have no excuse for hanging on to unneeded items.

When I started my closet project my oldest ones were heading back to school and our blog was about to start. I wanted a place “all to myself.” In a house my size and with so many children it sounded like the impossible dream. Still I went for it. I really wanted to figure out how to make an office space fit in there as well. Obviously, I had my work cut out for me.

If you recall from my laundry room post I recommended using all the space you have, especially up high. That is what I have done here.ย These are the cube storage units that you can put standard fabric bins in. I also usedย these customizable wire cubes. Both of these storage pieces are great because the wooden cube unit comes in different sizes and the wire ones can be separated so that you only use the squares you need. I have more of those in my son’s closet. Two closets, one unit. I decided that I no longer needed the dresser at the back of the closet and put the contents into 3 fabric bins. What I really like about my closet now is that there is empty space. I can move things around and when I pull items out a million other things don’t topple out too.

Special little things…

This placemat has my name on it. I have had it as long as I can remember. The wooden elephant bank – same thing. It has always had foreign money in it. The baby girl balloon is from Zellas’ gender reveal. My change is kept in a Fossil watch tin, so are my pens. This is my “blog work space.” The medal reminds me that I can really do something if I set my mind to it. When I was five and played soccer, my dad was my coach. Our team picture is on this coffee mug. Can you find me?ย  This frame calendar was not one of my Pinterest fails. I made it and I use it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love the way my closet looks now and I even make sure to pick it up most nights. What do you think? How did I do? Do you like organizing? 1. I love your new closet! I’m always looking for new organizing ideas, mainly because I’m so bad at it. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Can’t wait for more
