Awareness, Giving, Life

Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.  I promise, this is the last time in a while that I mention these “holidays”.  I only mention them to share with you today; #GivingTuesday.

What is #GivingTuesday?

“#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

One of the best ways to get involved is in your own community. We’ve created a directory to help you find organizations, charities, events and more in your own community.”  (source)

Why are the bloggers at mrsmomlife promoting #GivingTuesday?

All three of us have a soft spot for non-profits and giving back.  I personally think our favorite non-profit is Lutheran education, but I won’t speak for all of us.  Along with Lutheran education, there are many other great non-profits out there that could use your support this #givingtuesday and beyond.

Okay, I’m hooked, which non-profits do you suggest?

LCMS Schools–Lutheran education brought us together.  If you have an LCMS School near you, consider donating to them.  Not sure if you do, check out this website to find one close to you.  Or if you’d rather, you can donate to the LCMS as whole.

Autism Speaks–Janelle and her girls are active in supporting this organization through their work in pageants.  Every year they participate in the Autsim Speaks Walk in Denver.

NLOMA–Outdoor Education at Lutheran camps is where it is!!  Janelle and I spent many days at Lutheran Valley Retreat in Colorado with students in grades 5-8 for Outdoor Education.  I spent many years at Camp Luther of Nebraska during my middle school, high school, and college days.  If you’re looking for a summer camp, consider a Lutheran camp!

Camp Kesem–My cousins attended Camp Kesem while their dad was fighting cancer.  They now work at Camp Kesem to provide a week of camp for other children whose parents are fighting cancer.  Check out the Camp Kesem website for more information about what Camp Kesem does, or click here to donate to my cousin’s personal fundraising page.

Final thoughts…

If your favorite non-profit accepts donations through Facebook, consider donating that way as Facebook and the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation are matching up to $2 million of funds raised through Facebook.  All fees associated with donating through Facebook are waived today.

Happy Giving!
